The Sanshin: A Three-String Bridge to Ryukyu

The sanshin arrived in Okinawa centuries ago and slowly became something entirely Okinawan. Its three strings, its snakeskin body, and its warm round tone have accompanied weddings, festivals, quiet evenings, and farewells.

When I play, I think of all the hands that held this instrument before mine.
